We all know that the length of squash games can vary depending on the skill of the players, the temperature of the courts, and the scoring system. On average:

 

  • For beginners, a game will likely last around 20 minutes
  • For club players, a game lasts 40 minutes on average
  • Professional games often run approximately 60 to 90 minutes

One of the best ways to become a better squash player is for you to become fitter.

 

Consider trying circuit training, where you'll work a variety of muscles and improve your aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Also, try to incorporate yoga and Pilates into your training schedule.

How often you play squash depends on you and your fitness.

 

Many Members play 2 - 3 times per week, while others train almost every day. However, you can play too much. Be sure you're taking enough rest to avoid injury.

Leagues

We have 5 leagues, including our most popular Thursday Beer League, running throughout the year. Each league ends with a finals night party with dinner and drinks for the players and a pro exhibition match.

4 Squash championship boards at the Adelaide Club

Club Championships

Held annually, this is our knockout tournament with Members split into skill categories. Winners of each category are crowned Club champions and will have their names displayed on the Adelaide Squash Champions wall.

Ladders

We have an active challenge ladder with players from beginner through to advanced. All Squash Members can challenge other players on the ladder and, if you beat your opponent, you take their position.

Lessons

Our squash pros offer private coaching throughout the year. Lessons - either 40 minutes or 1 hour - can be scheduled in advance with Laurence.

FAQ

How many squash courts do you have?

We have 3 squash courts in the heart of the Club, conveniently located by the WorkHUB's lounge and bar, ratcheting Thursday night beer league up to a whole other level!

Do I need to book a squash court ahead of time or can I just drop in?

We offer online booking for our squash courts. If there is a specific time you would like to play, we recommend you to book 4 to 7 days in advance. If you are more flexible, you would be able to drop in at off-peak times to play. The primetime courts are at 7:30am, from 11:30am to 12:50pm, and 5:00pm to 6:50pm.

How do I sign-up for ladders, championships, tournaments, house leagues, etc.?

If you are already a Squash Member at the Adelaide, please contact Laurence to sign-up for these programs. If you are not a Squash Member and would like to become one, please contact Laurence.

How does the squash ladder work? Can I play anyone?

After an initial complimentary assessment session with one of our squash pros, you will be placed on the ladder, and can then challenge other players. If you beat someone in your zone, you take their position and they would drop down one place. You can challenge people in your zone through the online squash system.

What do I wear? Are eye-guards necessary?

Non-marking court shoes (meaning the sole of the shoe is very soft, the softer the sole, the less marking they are) are mandatory. Eye guards are strongly recommended. As for attire, typical fitness clothing works well.
